Diesel Engine Coolant

The engine cooling system is filled to provide year-round protection against corrosion and cylinder liner pitting, and winter freeze protection to -37 degrees Fahrenheit. It is recommended to use John Deere COOL-GARD. If COOL-GARD is not available, then use a low silicate ethylene glycol based coolant concentrate, in a 50% mixture of the concentrate with quality water. Water quality is important to the performance of the cooling system. Distilled, deionized or demineralized water is recommened for mixing with ethylene glycol base engine coolant. You will need to drain the factory fill coolant, flush the system, and refill it with new coolant. Subsequent drain intervals are determind by the coolant. When John Deere COOL-GUARD is used, the coolant drain interval is 3 years or 3,000 hours of operation. If COOL-GUARD is not used, the drain interval is reduced to 2 years or 2,000 hours of operation. If you need COOL-GUARD, come see our parts department, or visit our service department.

Keeping Radiator Screens Clean

For efficient cooling of your John Deere Equipment, the radiator screens must be kept clean (if equipped). You need to remove three screens. Them remove any dust or oil and carefully straighten any bent fins. After you have done this, you will need to reinstall the screens. If any of the screens are damaged and cannot be cleaned, then come by our parts department. Or if you'd like us to take care of this maintenance, bring your equipment to our trained professionals in our service department.
